‘Workers must be the subject of the process’

AMED – DEM Party Central Executive Board member İlknur Birol emphasized that workers must be the subjects of the "Peace and Democratic Society Process," stating, "Workers should participate in the struggle with their knowledge and experience."

The Equality and Democracy of Peoples (DEM) Party continues its efforts to include all social groups in the "Peace and Democratic Society Process" without interruption.

Within this scope, a “Labor Workshop in Democratic Society” was held on June 28-29 in Amed and Istanbul. During the workshop in Amed (Diyarbakır), topics such as “The Value and Diversification of Labor,” “Women’s Labor and Impoverishment,” and “Transition to Peace and Experiences of Lasting Peace” were discussed.

İlknur Birol, a participant and DEM Party Central Executive Board member, underlined that workers must be the active subjects of the process. She stressed that workers should join the process with their demands, saying: “Peace processes continue on several levels. Negotiation processes lay the legal and judicial groundwork. However, the processes through which peace and a democratic society gain real meaning are possible only if all segments of society, primarily workers, actively engage in the process.”

Ilknur Birol highlighted that workers have always favored peace: “Because every kind of war works against workers. Their lives and labor are taken away. A process that causes misery is developed. War may benefit arms dealers, but it ruins the lives of workers.”

‘WORKERS MUST BE THE SUBJECT’

Pointing out that workers must play a central role in building peace and democracy, İlknur Birol stated: “In the ‘Peace and Democratic Society Call,’ workers need to be the key subjects. The demand for peace and democracy is not something DEM Party claims alone. Workers should bring their accumulated knowledge and engage in the struggle by shaping it with the present conditions. The liberation of workers struggling under the grip of war and capitalism in Turkey and Kurdistan will only be possible through the success of the democratic process.”

EMPHASIS ON ‘ORGANIZED STRUGGLE’

Speaking about the workshops they have held to discuss workers’ participation and demands, İlknur Birol said: “Despite different approaches, the idea of participating in the process in an organized way emerged strongly. A call for a struggle based on equality, freedom, and prosperity was made. We discussed how to build a shared society and what role workers will have in it. Naturally, workshops like this will continue.”
